Have you ever dreamed of hitting the open road in a comfortable and spacious RV? Who hasn’t? Do you want to experience the freedom and flexibility of traveling at your own pace and staying wherever you want? Who doesn’t? If so, renting an RV from your friends at Gavins Point Recreational Center might be the perfect option for you. Using an RV for a family vacation can be a great way to explore new places, enjoy nature, and have fun with your family or friends. Keep in mind though, renting an RV also requires some planning, preparation, and research to make sure you have a smooth and safe trip. Read on, dear blog visitor, and we will share with you some tips and information that can help you rent an RV for the first time.

Being in the RV business, we’ve learned a thing or two, so here’s some tips and information that can help you rent an RV for the first time.

  • Choose the best size and type for your needs. RVs come in different types and sizes, such as motorhomes (drivable), travel trailers (towable), fifth wheels (towable), pop-ups (towable), etc. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages depending on your budget, comfort level, driving skills, number of people traveling with you, etc. You should consider factors such as how much space you need for sleeping, cooking, storage, etc., how easy it is to park and maneuver the RV, how much gas mileage it gets, how much it costs to rent and insure it, and so on.
  • Book well in advance! RV rentals are very popular during peak seasons such as summer holidays or winter breaks. We’re blessed to be in an area where beautiful camping destinations abound, so believe us when we say that many people just like you are considering doing the same thing. To avoid disappointment, definitely book your RV rental as early as possible.
  • Prepare yourself. Driving an RV is quite a bit different from driving a car. You should familiarize yourself with the features and functions of the RV before hitting the road. You should also practice driving it in a safe area before going on highways or narrow roads. AND DEFINITELY pay attention to factors such as speed limits, blind spots, turning radius, braking distance, height clearance, weight restrictions, and so on. We don’t want to scare you or discourage you, but the rules of the road might be slightly different than what you’ve been accustomed to.
  • Plan your route and be familiar with your campground ahead of time. One of the joys of renting an RV is being able to explore new places at your own pace. However, you should also plan your route and campground ahead of time to avoid getting lost or stuck without a place to stay. Research the attractions nearby, activities, weather and road conditions, gas stations, and dump stations along your route. And as far as what to look for when you reach “Point B”, look for campgrounds that offer amenities such as hookups (electric, water and sewer), laundry facilities, wi-fi, etc., that suit your needs, preferences, and (maybe the most important thing), budget.
  • Pack wisely. Packing for an RV trip can be challenging because you have limited space but also need many essentials. You should make a checklist of items that you need for camping such as bedding, septic-safe toilet paper, marshmallows, bug spray, more bug spray, and most importantly, bug spray.
